The Joy Water Bottle is a Nalgene Lexan #7 plastic bottle made from polycarbonate plastic (PC), a durable and heat resistant plastic used for food storage, baby bottles and water bottles.  Concerns about PC have been raised due to the potential low level leaching of hormone-disrupting chemical bisphenol-A (BPA).  Based on current research, PC is most likely to leach BPA during its initial use and after prolonged use.  However, until specific testing is conducted on BPA, follow these simple common sense guidelines when using your Joy Water Bottle to avoid potential health risks. 

*Wash your new bottle out with warm water and a mild detergent and let it dry at room
  temperature
*Only use the bottle to carry cold water - don't fill it with hot water or other liquids
*Replace your bottle every six months or whenever it appears worn
*Do not wash your bottle in the dishwasher or leave it for prolonged periods in direct
  sunlight
*Keep the bottle clean and bacteria-free, avoid strong detergents and bleach
